The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

Each time a prominent awards ceremony approaches, you'll find a clamor to include fresh award types to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and delight the spirits of fans with niche passions.

My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal stands as crucial above others. This is the request: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions avoid this approach. Yet it remains a necessary evil in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards presently include award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories effectively encompass a lot of ground, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No suitable classification appears to put them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: building puzzles in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly that have no home at major award shows, except when they manage to fit award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked in any category in 2014
  • Another creative title missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

Commonly they're compact experiences, but the art behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among the most-played games in the world and have been for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals famous sandbox experiences competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, while interacting across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. One could readily select five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these are games lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier game development, developing some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Just like movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
